CHENNAI: Officials of the Chennai airport customs seized 23 kilograms of gold, worth Rs 6.6 crore, from two people, including an employee of a private airline, on Sunday. The gold was being smuggled from Singapore.
Officials said the destination of the gold was Delhi and it was seized while the smugglers were trying to shift it from a plane that arrived from Singapore to a Delhi-bound flight.
“It was seized during the customs check. The person who carried the gold and a passenger who accompanied him were arrested,” said the official.
Investigations about the sender and recipients were on, said a senior customs official.
